it all begins with an idea

problem statement

Many South Africans lead busy lives and can do with some extra help with odd tasks at home or in the office. Facebook marketplace and other platforms where service providers can advertise are useful, but finding the right person to do the job is often time-consuming. It’s frustrating waiting for a response and even more frustrating when you reach out to someone and they don’t respond at all. Then there’s the extra effort to find someone who fits within budget, is reliable and has the experience you need.

approach

A survey was conducted on 108 random participants, aged 18 to 65. The sample size was weighted towards younger age brackets. All research participants were employed and fell within the average income bracket in South Africa or higher.

summary of findings

Notably, even before the Jobsnapp concept was introduced. a large number of participants indicated that an app, website or some sort of marketplace would be useful when they needed assistance with odd jobs or tasks.

The survey results indicated a positive attitude towards the Jobsnapp concept which warrants further investment into the product and user research.

Of these participants, 79 respondents indicated that they would definitely make use of an app like Jobsnapp. An additional 21 respondents indicated that they likely would make use of the app.

From the respondents who said that they would make use of an application such as Jobsnapp, 52 respondents indicated that they would use the app “very often” and 28 indicated that they would use the app “often”.

problem statement

Job posters are concerned that the person they hire cannot complete tasks or jobs based on their expectations. They have additional concerns that job seekers are less experienced than they present themselves to be. Job posters need a way to know that the person they are hiring is suitable for the task or job at hand.

considerations & restraints

Notifications need to be sent through Google Firebase services. All integrations with these services are managed by the exernal_notifications cron job.

purpose (solution)

After a job is completed, job posters will be able to rate the job poster on the job that has been completed. The job seekers’ average rating will be displayed on their profile along with a list of all of the completed jobs and their associated ratings.

objectives

Improve trust levels and user satisfaction: This feature fits into the strategic objective to provide job seekers a platform where they can find trusted service providers. By implementing the feature, job posters’ anxieties will be reduced and should therefore lead to fewer abandoned job posts.

scope

1. Update the “job completion” workflow to notify a “job poster” and ask for their rating

2. Updating the “job seeker” profile to display the average rating

3. Update the “job seeker” profile to display a list of jobs and each job’s rating.

Requirements

Requirement: Display an in-app model once a job seeker has completed a job requesting a user rating. Users will be rated between 1 and 5. This rating will be saved with the job for future reference. – User story

Requirement: Once a job is completed by the job seeker, a notification should be sent to the job poster requesting a rating. When opening the notification the rating model mentioned in Business Requirement 1 will be displayed. – User story
